What Do We Do?

School District No. 27 provides a classroom alternative in the form of online learning for students from Kindergarten aged students to adults. These courses are Ministry of Education certified courses delivered by B.C. certified teachers. Online Learning through our school district is different than homeschooling which is typically led by a parent or guardian. For a full explanation please see "Classroom alternatives."

Are You an Online Learner?

We all know that online learning is moving into the day-to-day experiences of many people.  Do you want to get a boating license, host a special event, or does your job require you to learn a new product?  These are just a few examples of where learning online will be required now or in the future and building the skills necessary to learn online is crucial.  It is also important to acknowledge that not all people are at the right time in their life to start an online course.

What Does It Take to Be a Successful Online Learner?

To be an online learner you will need to build a learning plan that will fit your lifestyle. Some of the things to consider:

  • How much time are you setting aside for your learning?
  • Who is your personal support person who can help encourage you to be successful in the course; not necessarily someone who can tutor you, but provide motivational support.
  • How much support can your teacher give you?
  • What is the turnaround for the assessment of work - how much feedback to you need and how quickly?
  • How much tutoring time can you get?
  • What time of day is tutoring available and does it meet your schedule
  • The course is structured with a lot of reading and videos to watch - does this meet your learning style?
  • You will need to post to a forum; do you like to talk about your learning in a forum?
  • The course will have many projects and activities that you need to do by yourself - does this meet your learning style?
